HEBSEASWIMMER - A HEBRIDEAN SWIM ADVENTURER

Southern Isle's Holiday - 15th July 2023

A fantastic 6 days with Kellie in the Southern Isle's of the Western Isle's ☺️ We stayed in Kilbride campsite in South Uist, Wavecrest campsite in Barra and Sealladh Alainn glamping pod in North Uist - all of which we'd highly recommend. Over the days, we climbed 3 hills (Eriskay, Barra and North Uist), explored some of Eriskay where Kellie and myself swam at the beautiful Whisky Galore beach, I swam around Kisimul Castle in front of Castlebay in Barra while Kellie spotted from the slipway. We swam at East beach (no sign of the cows that are usually there) and Kellie dipped her toes in the sea at the Queen's beach on Vatersay. A day trip from Barra with Hebridean Sea Tour's onboard 'The Spirit of The Hebrides' took us out to Mingulay (part of the Bishops Isle's) where Kellie and I had a look around the old settlement before swimming back to the boat. This is definitely worth doing if you have the time. We went to Am Politician, Kildonan Museum, Barra Gin, Castlebay Hotel, Flora Macdonald's birth place, Barpa Langass, Pobull Fhinn stone circle, Hercules the bear, Dun an Sticir, Coralbox and managing a very quick swim in the sea at West beach Berneray before we caught the sound of Harris ferry back to Leverburgh. Even saw an owl and a few eagles too.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

I've been a swimmer all my life and over the last several years I've done many challenging open water swims for charity all around our Islands which include the Sound of Barra & the Sound of Harris and both the Little & the Big Minch Channels to name a few.

Having a real passion for open water swimming, I spend a lot of my spare time looking for and discovering amazing new swim spots around the Islands.

I set up The Hebridean Sea Swimmers group in 2011 for all swimmers that live in or visit The Hebrides and it now has over 1000 members. I regularly meet up with visiting swimmers as I love to freely show off our Islands stunning swim locations.

SwimCamping and SwimHiking are my new adventures and having such an amazing playground on my doorstep is fantastic, double bagging my kit into the Lomo waterproof rucksack and swimming to an island for an overnight stay or longer is just the best.

Feel free to get in touch via the contact forms at the top of the page.
