Fantastic walk/swim adventure out to Tob Leireabhaigh and Loch Buaile Bhig this afternoon. Stunning scenery and I also had a swim in at the Tob which was bracing near the fresh water outlet. Will be back here again for sure. Found the Lomo rucksack to be very handy today and I know it has multiple uses. 300 metres to my polar bear challenge.

It's great place for a swim at the mouth of the river creed going around the wee island and great company too with Dolina, Margaret, Catherine, Graciela and Billy (Dolina's dog). Thanks to Doug and Eve for providing onshore watch/photos/videos :) Duckman was saying 3.7 riverside and 6.5 otherside. I forgot my trunks but luckily had my board shorts, lol. Good times in the grounds.... Storm Dennis gave us some nice waves to bodysurf and a double rainbow too at Garry beach this afternoon. Good times with Graciela, Sian, John and Seren. Duckman was saying a toasty 7.5 degrees average. Lovely Jubbly! Video is on the right hand side... Storm Dennis brought plenty of rain and wind today but there's always a sheltered spot somewhere on the islands away from rough seas, which helped visiting swimmer Sian get one of her sub 5c Jedi polar bear swims done at the mouth of the River Creed. Sian, Dolina, Ed, Billy (Dolina's dog) and myself didn't wander too far out as it was not safe to do so. Well worth the effort though...Duckman was saying 5.1 on the warm side and Sian's temp gauges were saying 4.5 on the river side...Swim safe & responsible.... Just had to get in the sea for an after work cool down togs swim today and the Ui Church end of the Braighe was the place for it to happen. Plenty of history in this area for spending time on too. Duckman was saying 5.9 degrees. 250 metres @ 10 minutes. Played about in the waves for a bit as well. Check out the Ui Church Website: https://uichurch.co.uk/ 10 minutes of bonkers waves at Dalbeg this afternoon, thanks to storm Ciara. Had a laugh trying to capture anything on camera..Duckman was saying 6.4 degrees average... A trip down the 88 steps at Geodha nan Eathraichean (Boats Gully) in Shulishader with Ed, Margaret and Catherine for a Superb coastal swim before we got photographed for Point and Sandwick Trust's next phase of their coastal path, which will take in this historical sheltered bay. Next month, they are going to renew the steps (the current ones are from 1903) and install a hand rail too. This is great news as there is some fantastic coastal swimming to be had here...We'll be back there for sure. Duckman was saying 7.6 & gadgy was 7.8 degrees. 350 metres @ 18 minutes. Great to be back in the sea at the old jetty in Garrabost. Had a swim through the wee stacks and around the island then back to shore. It wasn't a polar bear swim as I had gloves and boots on as wanted to spend a bit of time taking photo's with my 'back from the repair shop' Olympus TG6. Duckman was saying 6.6 & gadgy was 6.8 degrees. Will be back there for sure.... A nice walk coastal walk round to one of the natural arches on the west side of Lewis, with others in sight if you know where to look. Some folk would make you believe that there is nothing between the closer arch and Canada apart the Wild Atlantic Ocean, which is not true, for one there's the beautiful historical village of Dalbeg...No swimming as it was too wild but really enjoyed the stunning scenery...Hopefully it'll be calmer next time for a swim through the arch(es) at high tide...Always good to do a recce in advance of a swim...Much easier walking from the Dalbeg side rather than the Norse mill end... Fantastic start to February with a swim at the mouth of the river Creed with Dolina & Margaret, not to forget Dolina's dog Billy who did amazing swimming around the island with us. Duckman and gadgy were saying 5.2 degrees whereas Margaret's (non digital) fridge thermometer was saying 4 degrees on the fresh water side. It felt as cold as 4. 300 metres for my Polar Bear Gold Challenge |
