Garrabost arch swim/kayak - 14.06.2025

14/6/2025

Kellie (kayak) and myself (swim) went down to Garrabost this evening, heading through the arch and over to the first beach. Conditions were decent and the tide just high enough to get through the arch. The inside of the island was like seaweed soup.

Cracking morning for a swim at Traigh Ghearadha (Garry Beach) in Tolsta with Kellie. It's been ages since we've both been swimming and what a stunning location to get back in again, we even tried out the plunge pool near one of the sea stacks. Happy wedding day to Clare and Jason over in Derry today 😊🎊🍻

Great to meet up with visiting friend Tall Col for a swim after work through the arch at Garrabost, which involved a bit of scrambling but we got a seat in the low tide hot tub. There were about a half dozen seals watching us swimming round the outside of the arch on the way back to the slipway.

A wee hike with Kellie and Connor up to dun dubh for a spot of lunch. It's a great viewpoint over the minch to mainland Scotland, well on a clear day it is. Connor got his drone out for an aerial view of one of the bays.

A great February afternoon in Shulishader down the 88 steps to Geodha nan Eathraichean (Boats Gully) for a swim in the bottom of the cauldron with Connor, Marissa and Catherine. There was plenty of sea life underwater to view along the way. Thanks to Margaret and Chris for joining us for a walk.

Garrabost Swim - 09.02.2025

Thanks to Kathy, Catherine and Stuart for coming along for a swim this afternoon. It was probably the calmest I've ever seen the sea at Garrabost though it certainly wasn't the warmest. The slipway was slippery with ice but I had my throw line as usual in the van, so we could tie it up and use that if needed. Thanks also to Connor for the drone footage which is another video from today.

Thanks to Connor for the drone footage of us swimming at Garrabost this afternoon. As you can see it's a stunning coastline and swimming through the wee sea stacks and the arch is just class. See if you can spot the seal splashing 😊

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

I've been a swimmer all my life and over the last several years I've done many challenging open water swims for charity all around our Islands which include the Sound of Barra & the Sound of Harris and both the Little & the Big Minch Channels to name a few.

Having a real passion for open water swimming, I spend a lot of my spare time looking for and discovering amazing new swim spots around the Islands.

I set up The Hebridean Sea Swimmers group in 2011 for all swimmers that live in or visit The Hebrides and it now has over 1000 members. I regularly meet up with visiting swimmers as I love to freely show off our Islands stunning swim locations.

SwimCamping and SwimHiking are my new adventures and having such an amazing playground on my doorstep is fantastic, double bagging my kit into the Lomo waterproof rucksack and swimming to an island for an overnight stay or longer is just the best.

Feel free to get in touch via the contact forms at the top of the page.
