HEBSEASWIMMER - A HEBRIDEAN SWIM ADVENTURER

Dalmore Beach.

A beautiful beach for surfers but not advisable for swimmers, on the West Side of Lewis lies Dalmore Beach. In a recent article in the Scotsman Newspaper (https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/travel/best-places-to-go-wild-swimming-scotland-1-4754924), written by Robert Hamilton, who obviously did not research the area properly or approach the local Hebridean Sea Swimmers Group for advice on where to swim. Mr Hamilton recommends that people swim at Dalmore beach, where a Danger sign warning of strong under currents is nailed to the gate, visible for all to see . It is a beautiful beach, only 30 minutes from the main port of Stornoway, though as founder of the Hebridean Sea Swimmers group, it’s not somewhere I would recommend to people for swimming due to the (noted) strong under currents. I mean, how could you sleep if something happened to someone here? I would recommend beaches like Coll, Gress, Ghioradail, Traigh Mhor, Riof, Mealista, Hushinish, Mealista, Horgabost, Seilebost, Temple beach and they are just on Lewis & Harris. If anyone would like to join the Hebridean Sea Swimmers, you can find us on Facebook by searching for the group…Swim safe and Never alone..

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

I've been a swimmer all my life and over the last several years I've done many challenging open water swims for charity all around our Islands which include the Sound of Barra & the Sound of Harris and both the Little & the Big Minch Channels to name a few.

Having a real passion for open water swimming, I spend a lot of my spare time looking for and discovering amazing new swim spots around the Islands.

I set up The Hebridean Sea Swimmers group in 2011 for all swimmers that live in or visit The Hebrides and it now has over 1000 members. I regularly meet up with visiting swimmers as I love to freely show off our Islands stunning swim locations.

SwimCamping and SwimHiking are my new adventures and having such an amazing playground on my doorstep is fantastic, double bagging my kit into the Lomo waterproof rucksack and swimming to an island for an overnight stay or longer is just the best.

Feel free to get in touch via the contact forms at the top of the page.
