HEBSEASWIMMER - A HEBRIDEAN SWIM ADVENTURER

Mingulay SwimHike - 19.07.2023

Kellie and myself went on a boat trip with Hebridean Sea Tour's onboard 'The Spirit of The Hebrides' going from Barra to Mingulay. We wandered around the old deserted settlements and walked along the beautiful beach before going for a prearranged swim back out to our boat, It was jellyfish dodgems. Thanks to the guys for coming in on the tender for our hiking gear, making the swim a lot easier. Once everyone was back onboard the crew took us round the outside of Mingulay (through the stunning arch) and Pabbay then in between Sandray and Vatersay then back to the marina at Barra.

Eriskay SwimHike - 17.07.2023

Kellie and myself went for a hike up the hill (Beinn Scrien) on Eriskay before heading over the moor to check out an old settlement (Roisinis) near to the famous Whisky Galore beach where the SS Politician grounded. We walked and swam between the lush beaches and Calbhaigh, being weary not to go too far out. The water was so clear and easy to spot the odd jellyfish that was around. Once sorted we made our way back to the van by a different route thus seeing more of the amazingly scenic island. Both of us agree that it's a favourite of ours and we'll definitely be back again.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

I've been a swimmer all my life and over the last several years I've done many challenging open water swims for charity all around our Islands which include the Sound of Barra & the Sound of Harris and both the Little & the Big Minch Channels to name a few.

Having a real passion for open water swimming, I spend a lot of my spare time looking for and discovering amazing new swim spots around the Islands.

I set up The Hebridean Sea Swimmers group in 2011 for all swimmers that live in or visit The Hebrides and it now has over 1000 members. I regularly meet up with visiting swimmers as I love to freely show off our Islands stunning swim locations.

SwimCamping and SwimHiking are my new adventures and having such an amazing playground on my doorstep is fantastic, double bagging my kit into the Lomo waterproof rucksack and swimming to an island for an overnight stay or longer is just the best.
