Pabaigh Mhor SwimCamp - 19.06.2025

Gary and myself headed to the Pabaigh Mhor lagoon for a SwimCamp, going from Reef Beach via the Siaram Mhor sand bar (we also got out on the way over for a look around) and landing at the beach on Pabaigh followed by a hike across the island to set camp at the lagoon. The weather was just fantastic and we checked out the old church, the cave, the big arch and the stunning views from up high. A wee boat came into the lagoon while we had the campfire on and the folk had a quick swim. No joy seeing the sunset as it was clouded over. Plenty of bird life about and a couple of seals appeared now and again to spy on us. It was so clear that you could see the Flannan Isles and the Lighthouse flashing when it eventually got dark enough. Friday morning was a bit misty at the lagoon but it was nice and clear on the other side of the island for our swim back to Reef Beach. We swam via Siaram Mhor where there was a short tough stretch of sea where you really had to put the effort in or you'd be swimming backwards with the rest of the swim being fine. Pabaigh Mhor has a lot of history to it and my family tree is also linked to there.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

I've been a swimmer all my life and over the last several years I've done many challenging open water swims for charity all around our Islands which include the Sound of Barra & the Sound of Harris and both the Little & the Big Minch Channels to name a few.

Having a real passion for open water swimming, I spend a lot of my spare time looking for and discovering amazing new swim spots around the Islands.

I set up The Hebridean Sea Swimmers group in 2011 for all swimmers that live in or visit The Hebrides and it now has over 1000 members. I regularly meet up with visiting swimmers as I love to freely show off our Islands stunning swim locations.

SwimCamping and SwimHiking are my new adventures and having such an amazing playground on my doorstep is fantastic, double bagging my kit into the Lomo waterproof rucksack and swimming to an island for an overnight stay or longer is just the best.

Feel free to get in touch via the contact forms at the top of the page.
