Gary, Dave, Helen and myself met up at Holm this afternoon for a wee swim explore over to the remains of the iron age fort at Rubha Shildinis. Helen decided to spot us from the shore at Chubag while the rest of us swam over to one of the bays near the fort. None of us had been here before so it was great to check out a new location. The panoramic views from up on top of Rubha Shildinis are quite spectacular plus you can see some outlines of buildings from bygone times. I think it must have been a busy place 😊 We had good fun messing around the coastline on the way back, finding a cool cave that got dark, as it was pretty deep 🤔🤣 Click here's for more information on Rubha Shildinis Music by Beluga Lagoon Click here to watch the video

The weather was definitely a lot better this weekend for our next Point coastal adventure. This time carrying on from the Garrabost slipway to the pier at Portnaguran with a short stop on the shore at Shulishader (Geodha nan Eathraichean - Boats' Gully) for snacks etc...and to meet up with Rebecca and Lola. The whole coastline is vibrant with an assortment of geo's, caves and arches to explore plus rocky outcrops to try and get make your way through if possible and an abundance of sea and birdlife. Kellie (kayaking) and myself (swimming) probably did more exploring in the first half and went more direct in the second half due to time constraints. Still, it was pretty cool swimming past the Wyre Law shipwreck and finishing at the pier at Portnaguran. Also loved swimming through the arch into "the green cave" it's a stunning place. Bayble wasn't looking the best for a swim, so we opted for Garrabost and it was great to show this mini-swim adventure favourite place of mine to Coire. Swimming between the wee sea stacks, then over to and through the arch, with the tide being perfect for it. For the return journey back via the arch, we took the outside of the small island before going through one of the gaps of the wee sea stacks and stopping at the slipway. I think Coire likes this swim spot now too 😊 Music by Beluga Lagoon Click here to watch the video Kellie and myself opted for plan C today as A was choppy and B was busy. We had Swordale bay to ourselves except for the wildlife above and below sea level. Thousands of little jellyfish, a few Lions Manes, plenty of crystals and some salps not to mention the baby ducks near the arch. Kellie hadn't been round this part of the coast before so it was nice to show her how amazing it is. Connor and Kellie kayaking and myself swimming at Bayble this evening for a wee mini adventure round some of the small rocky islands. A few boats were about and a fishing boat came alongside the pier, thankfully after Connor had finished jumping in. You certainly notice a difference in the daylight hours these days. ps. I have to brush up on my diving in skills 🤣 Music by Beluga Lagoon Click here to watch the video Kellie, Lola and myself met up with Catherine, Seumas and Dave at the braighe this morning with the latter four of us going for a swim on the broadbay side while Kellie took Lola for a walk. There was a decent flow happening with the outgoing tide but there was just enough height to swim on the inside of the big reef so I was able to swim to the far end of the braighe and back again (approx 2.6km). Spotted a cracking shoal of sand eels near the big reef on my return leg, glinting in the light. Beautiful to watch them dart around. It was so clear underwater even though at times the rain was torrential. We showed Gary where the tidal arches are except they looked more like plunge pools this morning with the higher tide. There was plenty of wildlife about, above and below the sea with birds swooping overhead and shoals of small fish darting around. It wasn't the best of weather but Connor, Katelyn, Rebecca and myself did a bit of pier jumping while Kellie and Mila played on the sandy beach. Good craic 🤣 Music by Beluga Lagoon Click here to watch the video |
