Photo's from the 2018 St Kilda Swim trip, 11th-17th August 2018. Amazing bunch of folk involved all round. We swam at Scarp, Loch Resort, Village Bay, Monachs, Taransay & Cearstaigh. Finished off with a swim at Garry Beach. Packed a lot into our time. Thanks to Murdanie, Michaela & Garry for looking after all of us (Island Cruising). Photo's taken by Donna, Stuart, John, Pete, Jo, Eilidh, Murdanie & Myself. Donald and myself managed 1st team in the local 3rd Hebridean Triathlon today. Thanks to all the helpers (Surf Lewis and Harris, Coastguards, BASF, digger drivers, communities, marshalls, family and friends) who made the event run smoothly. This event couldn't happen without their support...Well done to all who took part too, total stars... Photo's from the Big Minch Swim 2018. Well done to Colleen Blair on becoming Queen of the Minch. Norman and myself never reached the finish due to a number of factors. I'll maybe go back another year and try again. Duckman was saying anything from 10.7 degrees to 13 degrees. I made the headlines for all the wrong reasons and there is some fake news online too....I'd also like to thank the support crew and the rescue squad. Apologies to Donna, family and friends who were worried sick till they knew I was ok. Was quite the day/night. 30 miles of swimming, over 20 hours in the sea. Fingers are crossed that Paul Finnegan completes his attempt this year. In a recent article in the Scotsman Newspaper (https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/travel/best-places-to-go-wild-swimming-scotland-1-4754924), written by Robert Hamilton, who obviously did not research the area properly or approach the local Hebridean Sea Swimmers Group for advice on where to swim. Mr Hamilton recommends that people swim at Dalmore beach, where a Danger sign warning of strong under currents is nailed to the gate, visible for all to see . It is a beautiful beach, only 30 minutes from the main port of Stornoway, though as founder of the Hebridean Sea Swimmers group, it’s not somewhere I would recommend to people for swimming due to the (noted) strong under currents. I mean, how could you sleep if something happened to someone here? I would recommend beaches like Coll, Gress, Ghioradail, Traigh Mhor, Riof, Mealista, Hushinish, Mealista, Horgabost, Seilebost, Temple beach and they are just on Lewis & Harris. If anyone would like to join the Hebridean Sea Swimmers, you can find us on Facebook by searching for the group…Swim safe and Never alone.. |
